“Some of you know well what Scrip is and others, I suspect, don‘t quite understand it. I confess that for the longest time I did not quite understand it. Scrip is “substitute money”.  When our parish purchases scrip, we receive gift cards or certificates that can be used like cash to purchase products or services from merchants who have issued them. They are worth exactly what you pay for them, though the parish was able to buy them at a discount, thus making a profit.

The success of Scrip depends on all of us changing our habits a bit and being willing to take the time to buy our parish Scrip gift cards or certificates. Scrip can be used to purchase anything from groceries, fuel, clothing, toys, and cosmetics to entertainment, electronics, home improvement, or household services. If we started to transition to more Scrip usage just for gas and groceries, this in itself would be of significant help to the parish. Consider the success of our Kwik Trip Scrip. By our parishioners choosing to use the Scrip from Kwik Trip which gives us 20% back, we have made $14,958 in profit from our total sales of $74,790, and no one had to add to their budget. Scrip has the potential to be an incredible help to our parish financially.”
